Town Center Park
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
Hamden Towne Center Park is located off of Dixwell Avenue behind Hamden Middle School. Enter at the School parking lot and follow signs and direction from parking volunteers to the on-site parking lot. Parking is free and on the grassy field.
The walk is approximately 5K in length, mostly flat with one small hill at approximately the quarter mile mark, along Dixwell Avenue. The walk then continues onto the Rails to Trails paved trail, a tree-lined, flat walk along the riverwalk trail. There will be a turn-around sign marking the half-way point, at which walkers will turn around and head back to the park. You may walk as much or as little of that length as you like, at your own pace. Dogs are permitted, on leashes only.
